We just learned that the Tea Party Super PAC Americans for Prosperity is up on the air with an outrageous TV ad in the critical battleground state of North Carolina.

I've seen a lot of political ads, but this one has some serious chutzpah – it's a complete rewrite of the historical record. Republicans in this state have cut education and punished teachers who spoke out. But the Tea Party wants you to think they're intent on "adding teachers"?

It's just not true.

Here's the truth: North Carolina Republicans cut education, and polls show that voters are on our side. We've won in North Carolina – we can do it again. We can hold this state for President Obama and hold the governorship.

But only if we fight back against these kinds of lies, right now.

Can you give $3, $5 or more to the DGA right now so that we can help respond to this false ad and set the record straight?

What the Tea Party's ad doesn't tell you is that the devastating education cuts by North Carolina Republicans have already led to higher class sizes, the loss of thousands of teacher and teacher assistant positions, and massive tuition hikes.

With Republican candidate Pat McCrory, it would just be more of the same.

That's why we need anotherfighter like Governor Bev Perdue. She's stood up to Republicans to preserve funding for education. In fact, all of the Democratic candidates for governor have pledged to do the same.

Give to the DGA right now so we can help respond to this Tea Party Super PAC and tell people the truth about Pat McCrory and his plan to cut education.

This is what you do when you can't win on ideas. You twist, distort, and manipulate the record. It's desperate, but it will work if we let it go unanswered.

This is just the first attempt by right-wing Super PACs to take out Democratic governors. If they succeed, Republicans will be able to take away voting rights, women's rights and the rights of working people.

It would be devastating for the governor's race and for President Obama's chances in this key battleground if we lose this fight now.

With your help, we won't. Tea Party Super PACs may have deep pockets, but we have grassroots donors like you.

The fact is: I'll take that every time.
