He says that his own budget plan "shares the same core principles as Ryan's impressive effort." Over the last year, the American people have stood up time and time again against Republicans' radical plans to phase out Medicare to fund more tax breaks for billionaires and Big Oil. Think a program that's helped bring down domestic violence by 58% is a good thing?  Then click here, and tell the Republicans in Congress to STOP BLOCKING re-authorization of the "Violence Against Women Act." 7 years ago, this was reauthorized unanimously in the Senate.  But now, thanks to GOP opposition, it might not have the votes in the Senate for passage. Send a message, and don't let them block this critical legislation.    3) Tell Harry Reid: "Don't let the Republicans DOUBLE student loan interest rates!" Folks, please support and share this fantastic new action from our friends at CREDO. This is unbelievable. The interest rates on federal student loans will double this summer if Congress doesn't take action. Back in 2007, when the Democrats were in charge of both the Senate and the House of Representatives, Congress passed the College Cost Reduction and Access Act. It reduced the interest rates on subsidized Stafford loans incrementally over four academic years, from 6.8 percent at the time to the current 3.4 percent. The current Republican leadership in the House is planning to let this legislation expire on July 1, effectively doubling the interest rates on these loans.
