{Political_Views} RedState Hails 'Femi-Regulars' for Rick Santorum

RedState Hails 'Femi-Regulars' for Rick Santorum

Posted: 28 Feb 2012 07:00 AM PST

RedState, home of CNN's Erick Erickson, front-paged this masterpiece of wingnuttery on Monday about Rick Santorum which begins,

Left-leaning elitist pundits are scratching their heads. After two weeks of liberals trying to convince women that Rick Santorum wants to rip the birth control out of their hands and put them in the kitchen, more and more women are supporting Rick Santorum."How could this be?" they ask. Answer: We are smarter than you think.

If by "women" this blogger means "Republican women not in Arizona" -- and if by "more and more" she means "some" -- then yes, this statement is technically correct.

But just what is a "Femi-regular" you ask?

Let me offer a little primer on American women to the liberal elitist folks who spend too much time in New York and Washington DC and not enough time where Femi-regulars live. "Femi-regulars" is a term I coined during the 2008 election when leftists just couldn't grasp the appeal of gun-toting Sarah Palin. Palin, I explained, like most women, was a femi-regular, not a femi-nazi (a tag coined by Rush Limbaugh to label rabid, man- hating feminists).

It's never a good sign when you have to explain your neologism. But this blogger isn't referring to the same Sarah Palin who is one of the most reviled figures in American politics, is she? Because Palin's "appeal" seems difficult for the entire country to grasp, not just New York liberals.

Most women are femi-regulars. They are strong women who are too busy accomplishing important things to worry about the divide and conquer strategies of leftists. They are more interested in voting for principled, honest, strong, America-loving folks who will stand up to evil, advance liberty and let our free enterprise flourish—all things that they see in Rick Santorum. They don't vote as women; they vote as Americans.

Let's take a look at how "most women" have voted in the last, say, three presidential elections.

2008
Obama 56 percent, McPalin 43 percent

2004
Kerry 51 percent, Bush 48 percent

2000
Gore 54 percent, Bush 43 percent

Those Femi-regulars sure love them some Democrats!

Anyway, I'm not sure I follow the logic here.

Most women are Femi-regulars who vote Democratic.
Most Femi-regulars support Rick Santorum.
Therefore, most Democratic women support Rick Santorum.

Sadly, this is what happens when your only three news sources are Faux News, Rush Limbaugh and Newsmax.

{Political_Views} Are Rich People Unethical?

For the most part you're damned right they are.  It's been my experience that this is true.

Are Rich People Unethical?
At last, an explanation for Wall Street's disgrace, Bernard Madoff's Ponzi scheme and other high-society crimes and misdemeanors: A new study published in the Proceedings of the National Academy of Sciences found that wealthier people were more apt to behave unethically than those who had less money.

Scientists at the University of California at Berkeley analyzed a person's rank in society (measured by wealth, occupational prestige and education) and found that those who were richer were more likely to cheat, lie and break the law than those who were poorer.

"We found that it is much more prevalent for people in the higher ranks of society to see greed and self-interest … as good pursuits," said Paul Piff, lead author of the study and a doctoral candidate at Berkeley. "This resonates with a lot of current events these days."

In the first of two studies, researchers found that those who drove more expensive cars (an admittedly questionable indicator of economic worth) were more likely to cut off other cars and pedestrians at a busy San Francisco four-way intersection than those who drove older, less-expensive vehicles.

In other experiments, wealthier study participants were more likely to admit they would behave unethically in a variety of situations and lie during negotiations. In another, researchers found wealthier people were more likely to cheat in an online game to win a $50 prize.

Greed is a "robust" determinant of unethical behavior, according to the study.

"This has some pretty clear implications," said Piff. "Inequality is very much on Americans' minds, and the potential effects of severe inequality on individual levels of behavior are major."

Large sums of money may give people greater feelings of entitlement, causing those people to be the most averse to wealth distribution, Piff continued. Poorer people may be less likely to cheat, because they are more dependent on their community at large, he said. In other words, they don't want to rock the boat.

"People in power who are more inclined to behave unethically in the service of gains and self-interest can have great effects on society as a whole," said Piff.

And it's difficult to say whether richer people get to the top because of their unethical behavior or whether wealth causes people to become this way. "It seems like a vicious cycle," he said.

Nevertheless, Piff said these results obviously don't apply to all wealthy people. He noted that Bill Gates and Warren Buffett were among the wealthiest people in the world and also the most philanthropic. He also pointed to high rates of violent crime in the poorest neighborhoods in the country that counteract the study's findings.

Piff said he hoped to further his research by figuring out ways to curb these patterns of behavior among wealthier individuals.

"What it comes down to, really, is that money creates more of a self-focus, which may account for larger feelings of entitlement," said Piff. "We hope to further study how we can curb these patterns and how that will affect our social environment."

{Political_Views} Join 500,000 against the Republican War on Women

LeftAction

In this report:  1) Join 500,000 against the Republican War on Women;   2) (Update) 30,000 Tell Mitch McConnell: "Give up your own health care first, hypocrite!"  3)  Left Action: "$1 to Obama for every 10 new Facebook fans"   4) Tell President Obama: "I'm in" (and whatever other comments & advice you want to add)

1) Join 500,000 against the Republican War on Women: Send a message to the GOP leadership.

Are you sick and tired of the Republican war on women? Then please click here and help our friends at the DCCC send a message to the Republican leadership, telling them to END it. And feel free to add a message of your own, and read what others have said.

The DCCC is just 55,000 supporters away from hitting the half-million mark.  Help them reach it!  For those not familiar with the DCCC, that is the "Democratic Congressional Campaign Committee," i.e., the folks driving the effort to win back the House from the Republican Party.  Please support them.

As the DCCC points out: "House Republicans have launched an all-out war on women since taking the Speaker's gavel. In just the last year, Republicans have: 1) Proposed redefining rape to limit women's access to health care; 2) Voted to defund Planned Parenthood; 3) Repeatedly tried to restrict women's health care choices.... House Republicans even held a panel on women's access to birth control coverage with five men and NO WOMEN."

And in news just breaking, Republicans will force yet another vote this week that could allow employers to deny tens of millions American women life-saving health care services.

Send a message today, and fight back!

--> Click here to share this on Facebook

2)
Tell Mitch McConnell: "Give up your own health care first, hypocrite!"

(****Update: 30,000 have sent messages to McConnell!  Keep it going!)

Folks, please support and share this fantastic new action from our friends at CREDO.

Senator Mitch McConnell is pushing an amendment to the Affordable Care Act that would allow employers to deny coverage not just for contraception, but for any treatment whatsoever that they claimed was against their religious or moral beliefs.

Well, we've got a message for Senator McConnell. As part the 300 million Americans who are his "employer," and who pay for his coverage, we want the option to refuse to provide subsidized health care coverage to hypocrites like him who concoct schemes to deny coverage to others.

Send McConnell a message:  "Give up your own health care first, hypocrite!"

And please share the heck out of this one -- CREDO really has a clever hook with this one, and we need to spread it!

--> Click here to share this on Facebook

3)
Left Action:  $1 for each 10 new Facebook fans

I read over the weekend that Bill Maher is giving $1 million to a pro-Obama super PAC. And well, that inspired me.

So for every ten new Facebook fans for Left Action between now and March 1st, I'll give $1 to that same super PAC. (Priorities USA Action) Click here to go to the Left Action page, and click "like" once you get there to become a fan.

Right now, we've got 594,615 fans for the Left Action page. That's the starting point, and for every 10 new fans beyond that on March 1st, I'll donate $1.

Why? Well, because I really, really, really don't want to see a President Romney or Santorum or Gingrich take office in January. And you better believe that the super PACs on their side will be putting un-effin-believable amounts of money into election. We need to do our part. So while I can't donate $1 million like Maher, I can do something.

--> Click here for the full story
--> Click here to visit the Left Action Facebook page

4) Tell President Obama: "I'm In!"

(And whatever other advice & comments you want to add)

Are you supporting President Obama's re-election?  Either enthusiastically, or because the idea of a "President Santorum" scares the heck out of you?

Either way, please click here to tell President Obama "I'm in."

Feel free to add advice, constructive criticism, or whatever is on your mind.  We will deliver your messages directly to the Obama campaign.

Click here to send a message, and to read what over 10,000 others have said.

(note: We will deliver your messages directly to the Obama campaign)

Thanks for your support, and for fighting back!

Sincerely,

John Hlinko and the Left Action team

{Political_Views} VICTORY: Bush tax cuts veto threat

Dear MoveOn member,

The Obama administration made a public commitment to veto any extension the Bush tax cuts for the richest 2%.1 You and 250,000 fellow MoveOn members helped make that happen by signing our two petitions asking the president to make this commitment. Thank you.

Share this victory with your friends and family on Facebook or Twitter.

This is a big victory, but it's only the beginning.

A huge fight will happen after the election over taxes and revenue. President Obama has taken away the Republican leverage on taxes by clearly saying he won't extend these tax cuts. But beyond taxes, there's a lot more at stake, like unemployment insurance benefits and defense spending.

We have to stay dedicated to encouraging the president and Democrats to make their positions clear, so they can negotiate with Republicans from a position of strength at the end of the year. So we'll run more campaigns between now and then to get them to commit to positions that benefit the 99%.

Share this progressive win with your friends and family on Facebook or Twitter.

Thank you for all you've done thus far, and all you do going forward.

{Political_Views} NBC's David Gregory is such pimp and a whore

On this Sunday's Meet the Press, host David Gregory did a fairly good job of pointing out that it was somewhat hypocritical of Rick Santorum to be criticizing President Obama for wanting all Americans to have an opportunity to go to college when he's a college graduate himself and has encouraged his own children to go to college.

Unfortunately, Gregory gave him a complete pass on his remarks that President Obama wants to "indoctrinate" students to a liberal agenda by encouraging higher college enrollment. He allowed Santorum to go on and on about how going to college as opposed to a trade school shouldn't be the only way for someone to get ahead in life without every pinning him down on how going to college is supposed to be "indoctrinating" anyone.

G.O.P. Campaigns Grow More Dependent on 'Super PAC' Aid

As a strategy, might I suggest to all the progressives in the group that if and when a caucus/primary is available to you that you (where possible and prudent) vote in the Republican primary and to vote for the person who has the least delegate count at that time - thereby insuring that the blood letting will continue until at least late in June and if we lucky all the way to the convention in Tampa in August.  Maybe if we're lucky they'll run out of money and by they I mean the filthy rich super pac supporters.....leaving the little guys to support their candidates with their $5 to $25 contributions.

{Political_Views} Issues Update from Sen. Carl Levin

Unsubscribe
Washington Update - Senator Carl Levin

February 2012

Recently, Sen. Levin introduced two pieces of legislation to close unjustified tax loopholes and reduce the budget deficit; welcomed an encouraging new jobs report; joined other Great Lakes lawmakers in highlighting a report on how to protect the lakes from invasive species; supported a measure to reinforce prohibitions on insider trading by members of Congress; and celebrated Michigan's 175th birthday.

Bill closes tax loopholes to reduce the deficit

Carl speaking at a podiumCarl speaking Sen. Levin joined Sen. Kent Conrad of North Dakota in introducing the Cut Unjustified Tax (CUT) Loopholes Act, which would reduce the deficit by $155 billion by closing tax loopholes that favor wealthy individuals and corporations, loopholes that raise the tax burden that American families must carry. It would combat offshore tax haven abuse, and close a loophole that subsidizes corporations that grant stock options to their top executives. It would provide more than enough revenue to pay for a full-year extension of the payroll tax cut now in place, or put a significant dent in the deficit reduction we need to avoid draconian automatic cuts now set to begin next year.

Closing loophole would combat harmful speculators

Carl speakingCarl speakingSen. Levin introduced the Closing the Derivatives Blended Rate Loophole Act, which would end an unjustified tax loophole that promotes speculation in commodities that can raise the prices consumers and businesses pay for energy, food and other materials. This loophole gives a big tax break to those who trade in oil, crops and other commodities, even if they hold onto these investments for a few seconds.

{Political_Views} iPhone workers

The letter below was written by Gou Rui-Qiang and Jia Jing-Chuan for SumOfUs members. They worked in an Apple factory in Suzhou, China cleaning iPhone touch screens until their nerves were permanently damaged by chemicals used during cleaning.

Dear SumOfUs Members and Friends -

You don't know know us but you have seen our work. Until recently, we worked long hours assembling Apple's iPhone touch screens in Suzhou, China.

In early 2010, it was independently confirmed that 137 workers, including us, were poisoned by a chemical called n-hexane which was used to clean iPhone screens. N-hexane is known to cause eye, skin and respiratory tract irritation, and leads to persistant nerve damage. Apple admitted to gross labour rights violations more than a year later.

If more people know about what we went through, Apple will feel pressured to change so other workers don't have to suffer like we did.

Can you share this letter with your friends on Facebook, and ask them to join you in signing our petition calling for a reform of working conditions at their factories? You can also forward this email to your friends directly.

We have been pressuring Apple, and its new CEO Tim Cook, for years to compensate those of us who were injured working for them, and demanding reform of working conditions at their Chinese factories so that their workers don't suffer like we do. Now we need your help as customers or potential customers of Apple.

We need your help to send a message to Apple before their shareholder meeting on Thursday, Feb. 23rd. We want to see a strict corporate social responsibility and reform of the audit system to prevent similar tragedies in the future. He will listen to you as current or potential consumers.

You've already signed the petition, and 82,000 others have too -- for that, we thank you. We believe it'd be symbolically powerful if 100,000 people signed the petition before SumOfUs delivers it to Tim Cook on Thursday at their shareholder meeting. We're really close to that goal, but we need you to share our request with your friends to get over the edge.

Can you share our letter with your friends, and ask them to sign the petition too?

It has been over two years since many of us were hospitalized and treated but our debilitating symptoms continue. Rui-Qiang still can't find work because he can no longer stand for the long hours most jobs require. Jing-Chuan has to spend nearly $100 a month on health supplements.

But with all of us working together to pressure Apple to change, we can make sure what happened to us doesn't happen to others too.

- Gou Rui-qiang and Jia Jing-chuan

{Political_Views} Santorum resorts to weaving faith into campaign - chiding opponents about their religious beliefs

Santorum resorts to weaving faith into campaign - chiding opponents about their religious beliefs

The only Catholic president, John F. Kennedy, said on the campaign trail that "I believe in an America that is officially neither Catholic, Protestant nor Jewish."

And so do I.

Article VI of the Constitution of these united states of America reads in part: "but no religious Test shall ever be required as a qualification to any Office or public Trust under the United States."

You see that folks - "...NO RELIGIOUS TEST SHALL EVER BE REQUIRED" for any office" that means all the way down to dog catcher or truant officer.  So let us keep religion out of politics.  Tell Frothy Santorum to keep his religious views to himself - that the don't belong in any public debate over public policy.  You see what he did by sleight of hand?  He claims that if you aren't a Catholic then you aren't a real Christian.  He's bringing religion into this presidential race.  Personally I welcome it......calling all the evangelical right wing nut conservatives what they are - heretics.  But hey that's just me and that's religion not politics.  I believe that conservative Catholics are heretical too.  I believe that Jesus was a progressive liberal.  Again though that's just me and MY reading of the New Testament.  But I don't believe that religion has any reason to be in politics.  If we allow it into our politics then it will only lead to civil war just like in Northern Ireland (Catholics vs Protestants) or Jews vs. Muslims in the Middle East or Shiite vs Sunni in Iraq.  It could lead to the resurrection of the Spanish Inquisition wherein Jews and Protestants were tortured and burned at the stake for being heretics.  Now I like most people - even those who don't follow the true faith and will burn in the fires of hell.  On the other hand who am I to say that God won't change His mind and allow the heretics into heaven.  One never knows.  It's not my decision to make after all "Judge ye not least ye be judged."  So I'm all for live and let live.

For all the conservatives in the group who are for small government I ask you this: If you want the government off of your back why then do you want them in womens' reproductive organs.  What business is it of yours if women use contraceptive medications.  You do realize that if Santorum gets his way and the use of contraceptives becomes a states rights issue and the state you live in outlaws contraception then rubbers will become illegal too.  It's not just a womens' issue then is it?  The Catholic church and therefore also Santorum, wants to abolish not only abortion but contraception too.  Getting lucky will take on a whole new meaning.

What I want to know is this: You folks talk about "Freedom" so much why then is it that you want freedom for yourself but want to restrict it for everyone else's.  You're so worried about Obama care taking away your "freedom" for your health care decisions you can't see that you are trying to take away everyone else's "freedom" to choose when or weather to conceive.

Understand this: Your religious convictions - and how they impact upon me and others - ends at your nose.  My religious convictions end at the end of my nose too.

{Political_Views} Conroy: US Troops May Now Be in "Fast & Furious" Fallout

February 20, 2012
Please Distribute Widely

Dear Colleague,

Narco News correspondent Bill Conroy reports that U.S. troops deployed to the US/Mexican border last week may well be there, in part, to deal with the blowback from ATF's botched Fast and Furious gambit.

Conroy reports:

"ATF's Fast and Furious gun-running operation catapulted into the national spotlight in early 2011, with the focus on the Arizona border, where the operation allegedly played out — with the weapons, under ATF watch, finding their way in bulk, an ongoing Congressional investigation has found, to the Sinaloa "Cartel," which is led by the likes of Joaquin Guzman Lorea (known as El Chapo) and Ismael Zambada Garcia.

"However, an ATF agent, who asked not to be identified, recently told Narco News that the `gun-walking' tactics employed in Fast and Furious also extended to the New Mexico border as part of a `cut-out' operation. The New Mexico operation also allowed hundreds of US weapons (possibly far more) to be smuggled across the US border — with the supposed goal of identifying the `higher-ups' in the Mexican narco-trafficking organizations that were purchasing the illicit weapons.

"… The ATF (the Department of Justice's Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives)-sanctioned Fast and Furious operation, and its predecessors under the Bush administration (one dubbed Wide Receiver, launched in 2006), whether by design or not, in essence it seems, armed one enemy (the Sinaloa Cartel) to fight another enemy (the VCF), and in the process, a lot of innocent people as well as drug-war combatants have been caught up in the blowback — many killed due to smuggling-route battles being waged to assure assess to a lucrative black market that spreads across both sides of an invisible line we like to call a border."

{Political_Views} Let Romney Go Bankrupt

Progress Michigan

Dear Friend,

RomneyBankruptVideoGraphic.jpgReckless, detached from reality, dishonest.

That's what the CEO of AutoNation, Inc., the largest auto-dealer group in the U.S., said about Mitt Romney's dangerous opposition to the auto rescue that was famously headlined "Let Detroit Go Bankrupt." And he's right: If Romney had had his way, GM wouldn't be posting its highest profit ever and thousands of Michiganders would be out of work.

Even more troubling, Mitt Romney is still trying to blame President Obama while taking credit for the auto rescue. Shame? Romney has none. Let's make sure that Romney and every other political candidate gets the message from Michigan: the auto rescue worked and anyone who says otherwise is lying.

Mitt Romney was willing to let Michigan go bankrupt. But it's Romney's reckless ideas about the auto industry and its recovery that should go bankrupt. That's why we want everyone to send as strong a message as possible: Let Romney Go Bankrupt!

Let Mitt hear the roar of our engines and know that working Michiganders won't forget his hypocrisy.

Thanks for all you do,

David Holtz and the entire Progress Michigan team

P.S. Support our campaign and send a message by making sure you get a Let Romney Go Bankrupt sticker while supplies last.

{Political_Views} Some People Listen To Rick Santorum And Hear The Voice Of God

Some People Listen To Rick Santorum And Hear The Voice Of God

Posted: 19 Feb 2012 07:00 AM PST

You know, when I try to listen to Rick Santorum, this is what it sounds like to me -- kind of like those Peanuts cartoons where the grownups are talking and all the kids hear is "Wah wah wah!" He just doesn't make sense.

But there are a lot of people who hear something completely different. They hear the trumpets of angels and the voice of God, calling them to protect the unborn from the medical holocaust of abortion.

And there we have it. Because if that's really what you believe, there's no middle ground.

I used to say that if I could sit down with any anti-abortion true believer and talk to them for an hour, I could get them to budge on their absolutes. For a long time, that worked. But I don't think I could do it now. The combination of a black president, Fox News and a tsunami of wingnut think-tank and direct-mail cash paying for a constant drumbeat of "save the babies" has made it almost impossible.

I was visiting an elderly relative yesterday who told me one crazy anti-abortion scare story after another. She believed every single one of them. Did I argue with her? Nope. She wasn't looking for facts. She was looking for redemption.

She told me the story about an ex-abortion doctor who'd seen the light and told people that Planned Parenthood knowingly gave defective birth control pills to girls  -- just so  they could get them to come back for an abortion.

Those bastards. Once you realize what they're really up to, what caring person would want Planned Parenthood to get one penny of public dollars for this evil scheme?

Sigh... If we ever want to beat the right wing at their game, we need mythic stories like this to capture the public imagination. Spreadsheets, academics and white papers aren't going to do it.

{Political_Views} NYT Morphs into RADICAL REACTIONARY RIGHT WING RAG

New York Times: Okinawans' 'True Views' Aren't What They Say

We don't need yet another air base in Okinawa.  For that matter we don't need another air base on foreign soil anywhere in the world.  Build that base here and bring the airmen home.  No more foreign intervention, no more foreign intrigue is necessary for a healthy American economy.  No.  Rather far flung American bases weaken the American economy, divide our troops and weaken us militarily.  Close down most if not all of the military bases of Imperial America.  Bring them home.  Let them spend their hard earned money here, in our economy, where it will do more good for us, than spending it there in their economy.  A strong healthy economy lends itself more readily to a strong America - more so than a weak economy ever could.  Put American taxpayers back to work building new military bases for our troops to come home to, rather than employing foreigners to build American military bases over there.  This way there will be more Americans paying into the system, and the Federal goverenment will get some of that money back (by way of taxes - a broader tax base).  There are other economic benefits to this plan too, benefits wherein the cost of running the government is reduced (less Americans collecting unemployment benefits, less Americans needing food stamps or other Federal and State as) and thereby saving money.  It's a sound business practice.

{Political_Views} NYT MORPHS INTO RADICAL REACTIONARY RIGHT WING RAG

NYT: Okinawans' 'True Views' Aren't What They Say

Apparently the NYT knows the minds ob Okinawans and their opinons better than the Olinawans themselves.

We don't need another far flung foreign air base in America's Imperial Empire.  Put Americans back to work building military bases here and bring our troops back home.

The benefits to this strategy are many.  First our tax dollars will go to putting Americans back to work here.....thereby putting money back into their pockets where they will spend it HERE in America - which will help create more jobs in the stores, gas stations, service centers and such.

Plus those Americans will no longer be getting any money from the Federal and State governments via unemployment insurane, Medic-Aid, Food Stamps and other forms of governmental assistance.

Now with those Americans working and putting their hard earned money back into the economy (and not in some Cayman Island or other off shore bank) that will create more jobs and those people will spend their money in the U.S. economy and thereby creating even more jobs HERE (and not off in some foreign land).

With all those new jobs, that is with more taxpayers paying into the system and with less money going out of the Federal and State treasuries, the Federal government and the States will have more money for: education, bridge and road repair, schools, etc.  And that too will create more jobs.

Now besides all of that, all of the troops that are brought home will be spending their hard earned money in the American economy and not in some foreign country's economy - (and who know's where that money goes?  I hope not into the hands of our enemies).

A strong healthy economy is the best weapon we can have to keep our enemies at bay.  We need to close our far flung military empire.  Close most if not all the American military bases on foreign soil and bring the troops home.

If some foreign country is not strong enough to defend themselves and want our help then THEY should pay the cost of our troops (being there) and pay for the drain it puts on our economy - NOT the American tax payer.

However that having been said, Japan's Self Defense Force is quite capable and strong enough to defend itself and our pressence on their soil is quite unnecessary and so we need NOT build yet another air base on Okinawa over the objections of the Okinawans themselves.

Now that folks is a Liberal idea.
