{Political_Views} Yesterday was appalling

Yesterday, the GOP and conservative media shut women out of a debate on women's health. In moments like this, we need our OWN media to spread the truth. So we've launched a big new effort to do exactly that. Can you chip in $5 to help?

Dear MoveOn member,

Yesterday, the GOP convened a "witness panel" for a hearing on contraception coverage. Guess how many women there were on the panel?

None. Zero. Sandra Fluke, the one woman who would've presented, was shown the door.

A MoveOn volunteer from our ShareMachine team heard Sandra's story and alerted our tiny staff team. Within minutes, we had posted her story on our site and pushed it out through national social networks. We gave her a platform when the GOP and conservative media outlets wouldn't.

This is a powerful model. Last year, 65 million people saw progressive stories and information through our rapid-response, people-powered system. And we've been building, building, building to be ready for this big election year, as the GOP pushes misinformation and propaganda from Congress to state legislatures.

If Congress and mainstream media are going to ignore the real stories, we need to tell them ourselves—but we need the resources to pay for web servers, programmers, and developers. Will you chip in to help us tell the critical stories that aren't being told?

Here's how our model works: Every day, a team of 50 MoveOn volunteer editors scours the web for the most inspiring, thought-provoking, impactful progressive news and opinion. Graphics debunking Republican lies about the economy. Live video coverage of the Occupy movement. Inspiring footage of progressive heroes. And much more.

It's a wild fire hose of information that's wrestled to the ground by an awesome group of volunteers, backed up by our tiny staff of editors and programmers. When there's a crucial story that needs to be told but we can't find great media, we make it ourselves. Then we put it through a battery of tests we've designed, and if it proves juicy enough to be shared broadly, we push it out to hundreds of thousands of people, who share it with millions more.

We believe that people-powered media, funded by people like us, can be a secret weapon against the conservative noise machine. There are millions of progressives whose social networks cover most of America. Together, we could reach more people than Rupert Murdoch on a good day!

But we need to raise enough to expand our ability to find, produce, and test terrific content—not to mention to develop the tools to widen our reach. Can you chip in $5 to make this all possible in 2012?

Yes, I can chip in $5.

MoveOn.org Civic Action is funded by small dollar contributions from folks like you, and since we keep our staff size very small, those contributions are used very efficiently to work on this project and to support all our good work.

Thanks for all you do.
